"Does God want us to suffer? What if the answer to that question is ‘yes’? You see, I don’t think that God particularly wants us to be happy. I think He wants us to love and be loved. He wants us to grow up. You see, we are like children who think that our toys bring us all the happiness there is, and that our nursery is the whole wide world. But something has to drive us out into the world of others, and that thing is suffering. Put simply, pain is God’s megaphone to rouse a deaf world. We are like blocks of stone from which the Sculptor carves a form. The blows of His chisel which hurt us so much are what make us perfect."

"That’s what real love amounts to - letting a person be what he really is. Most people love you for who you pretend to be. To keep their love, you keep pretending - performing. You get to love your pretence. It’s true, we’re locked in an image, an act - and the sad thing is, people get so used to their image, they grow attached to their masks. They love their chains. They forget all about who they really are. And if you try to remind them, they hate you for it, they feel like you’re trying to steal their most precious possession."

"Justice is trampled underfoot by weakness, cowardice and fear of the diktat of the ruling mindset. Evil draws its power from indecision and concern for what other people think."

"Religion is actually not a crutch; it is a cross. It is not an escape, it is a burden; not a flight, but a response. We speak here of a religion with teeth in it, the wind that demands self-sacrifice and surrender. One leans on a crutch, but a cross rests on us. A coward can use a crutch, but it takes a hero to embrace a cross."

Mama, 2.

Mama came home from work to a Kitchen table with 2 cans of Coke, a Pizza and some Cheesy Bread. Not exactly her favorite food to eat. Despite having explained to her that Domino’s Pizza was the only place I could think of that took Debit upon delivery, Mama scolded me. I had bought us a supper that cost $35.90; and that was just way too much money for Mama.

Sometimes having Supper and Conversations with Mama is hard. Because Mama only seems to know how to speak in orders. Eat the Chicken. Drink the V8. Clean the house. My response is always “Yes, Mama” in different variations. When Mama gives advice, it’s always about what should have been done. Even when Mama’s relaxing on her couch, Mama always seems to be thinking about tomorrow’s work. I got to finish this. I got to pay that. I got to call this person. Mama, works her ass off.

Mama can make money grow without any trees. She runs her own apartment, maintains it (lawn mowing, minor renovations and all)… Solo. She works as care-giver for an elderly woman. She also sews her own hospital uniforms to sell, from our house’s basement. She also sells pants. She picks up a whole bunch of these jeans from a place and distributes them to her friends to sell. In essence, Mama works her ass off.  Mama is an Obedient Woman.

The Lord really speaks to me when I think of her and the Busyness. All Mama wants from me is to finish school. And although she doesn’t say it, all Mama needs from me right now is just to be financially stable. There is just so many Dreams that are going through my head. But now more than ever, I know that all He is asking me to be is Obedient. Study. Serve. Experience the every day. Work hard, just like Mama.

Lord, bless Mama. Take away her loneliness and replace it with your Comfort. Love her, embrace her and allow her to experience Joy every single day.

Proof

I’m not sure if you knew this but:

On Thursday, January 31, 1957, the Canadian Parliament proclaimed:

“A Day of General Thanksgiving to Almighty God for the bountiful harvest with which Canada has been blessed – to be observed on the 2nd Monday in October.

This day isn’t just another statutory holiday with pay. It’s a government sanctioned holiday to thank our God.

How awesome is that?!

I hope and pray that your gratitude goes beyond the automatic Tweet or status update of something slightly related to Thanksgiving or how sleepy the turkey has made you. Let’s verbally affirm those who inspire us to be better people. Let’s address that both blessings and suffering are assets to us becoming better people. Offer time to the Lord and acknowledge that He is the source of our love, our blessings, our life. Let us realize that these blessings are not experienced by everyone, and that they have been earned, offered, sacrificed for, and given to you. They did not just materialize out of nowhere.

Lastly, I invite you to not just say/text/type/write that you’re grateful.

Let’s prove it.

“The world does not need more words, the world needs more words made flesh.”
Ennie Hickman

Happy thanksgiving to you and all you love. God Bless.

The reasons behind the changes in the Roman Missal.

So we pray the best possible translation of the Latin.

(via pdans)

"Pope Paul VI wrote that the Church is “an expert in humanity.” As a good mother, the Church knows that our intense desire for love can make our fallen human nature vulnerable to counterfeits. So, she reminds us of the grave moral evils of adultery, divorce, cohabitation, contraception, pornography, in vitro fertilization and homosexual activity. We seek love, we’re designed for it, and all of these actions lead us further away from the love of God the Father."
