I’m not sure if you knew this but:
On Thursday, January 31, 1957, the Canadian Parliament proclaimed:
“A Day of General Thanksgiving to Almighty God for the bountiful harvest with which Canada has been blessed – to be observed on the 2nd Monday in October.
This day isn’t just another statutory holiday with pay. It’s a government sanctioned holiday to thank our God.
How awesome is that?!
I hope and pray that your gratitude goes beyond the automatic Tweet or status update of something slightly related to Thanksgiving or how sleepy the turkey has made you. Let’s verbally affirm those who inspire us to be better people. Let’s address that both blessings and suffering are assets to us becoming better people. Offer time to the Lord and acknowledge that He is the source of our love, our blessings, our life. Let us realize that these blessings are not experienced by everyone, and that they have been earned, offered, sacrificed for, and given to you. They did not just materialize out of nowhere.
Lastly, I invite you to not just say/text/type/write that you’re grateful.
Let’s prove it.
“The world does not need more words, the world needs more words made flesh.”
—Ennie Hickman
Happy thanksgiving to you and all you love. God Bless.
